Window Project

A contemporary art gallery in Tbilisi, judged by collectors and fair committees on its website before anyone visits. A site that carries a dense, serious programme without a word of marketing.

(01) Brief

Art should be public.

Window Project began in 2013 as an empty window display at the Pantomime Theatre on Rustaveli Avenue, with one idea: art should be public. Since 2018 it has run a gallery on Tatishvili Street, representing Georgian artists across generations — Koka Ramishvili, Tamara K.E., Uta Bekaia, Rusudan Khizanishvili, Ani Toidze, Ninka Skhiereli — and showing them at ARCOmadrid, NADA Miami, Asia Now, ZONAMACO and Abu Dhabi Art.

A gallery at that level is judged by collectors and fair committees on its website before anyone visits. The brief was a site that could carry a dense, serious programme without a word of marketing.

(02) Approach

Let the programme be the site.

We let the programme be the site. Every exhibition and fair presentation is given its own full text — the curatorial statement, the artists, the dates, the booth — in the gallery's own register, because that is what a curator or collector arrives to read. Navigation is reduced to what the gallery actually does: News, Exhibitions, Artists, Fairs, Window Projects, About, Art Consulting.

Images lead and type stays out of their way. Nothing on the site asks for an email or sells a print; the only calls are to Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo and Artland, where the gallery already speaks. The result reads less like a brochure and more like a record.

(03) Build

A new fair is a post, not a redesign.

A Squarespace site the gallery team updates themselves, with exhibition and fair archives, artist pages, a news feed, an art consulting page, terms and contact, and integrations with Artland and the gallery's video channels. Structured so that a new fair or opening is a post, not a redesign.
